What is an SF6 density monitor ?
An SF6 Density Monitor also known as an SF6 density relay or SF6 pressure gauge is a critical monitoring device installed on gas insulated switchgear GIS ring main units RMU and gas insulated transformers. It continuously measures the density of SF6 gas inside the sealed compartment and provides alarm and lockout signals when gas pressure drops due to leakage.
Unlike a standard pressure gauge which fluctuates with temperature, an SF6 density monitor compensates for temperature changes and displays true gas density. This ensures reliable indication regardless of ambient temperature variations.
