Working Principle of the 25kV 600A Deadbreak Apparatus Bushing

1. Basic Function

The 25kV 600A Deadbreak Apparatus Bushing is an epoxy-molded high-voltage electrical component designed for sidewall mounting in transformers, switches, and other oil-filled electrical equipment. It provides a 600A current-carrying capacity and supports 25kV (15.2kV line-to-ground) applications. Its core functions include:

Electrical conduction – Ensures stable power transmission at 600A.

Insulation & sealing – Prevents electrical breakdown or leakage between internal equipment (e.g., transformer oil) and the external environment.

Separable connection – Compatible with IEEE Std 386-2016 compliant 600A separable connectors (e.g., T-body, deadbreak elbow).

2. Working Principle

(1) Electrical Connection

Internal conductor – A conductive core (typically copper or copper alloy) is fixed to internal equipment (e.g., transformer windings or switch contacts).

External interface – Uses standardized 600A separable connectors (e.g., deadbreak elbow or T-body) for plug-and-play cable or busbar connections, enabling quick installation and maintenance.

(2) Insulation Design

Epoxy resin molding – High dielectric strength epoxy ensures no partial discharge or surface flashover at 25kV.

Multi-layer insulation –

Primary insulation – Uniform electric field distribution to prevent breakdown between the conductor and equipment housing.

Interface sealing – Gaskets prevent oil leakage at mounting surfaces (e.g., transformer tank).

(3) Compatibility & Standardization

Complies with IEEE Std 386-2016, ensuring interchangeability with all 600A separable connectors (e.g., elbows, loadbreak connectors).

Supports multiple voltage classes:

15kV class (8.3kV line-to-ground)

25kV class (15.2kV line-to-ground)

28kV class (16.2kV line-to-ground)

(4) Mechanical & Environmental Protection

Sidewall mounting – Securely installed into transformer or switchgear enclosures, resistant to internal oil pressure.

Oil-resistant – Suitable for transformer oil or equivalent insulating mediums.

3. Typical Applications

Transformers – High-voltage cable terminations.

Switchgear – Ring Main Units (RMUs), load break switches.

Fault isolation – Works with deadbreak connectors for de-energized operations (hot-stick operable after de-energization).

4. Key Advantages

High reliability – Epoxy insulation resists aging, moisture, and heat for extended service life.

Modular design – Compatible with various separable connectors for flexible system expansion.

Safety certified – Full compliance with IEEE Std 386-2016 for guaranteed electrical performance.
